Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, died as a young girl, requiring her mother to support the family by working as an attendant and a cleaner. Ruth was raised in the tenement area of poverty of Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. She left the school she was attending just two years later in pursuit of the profession of acting. The path she chose to take turned out to be fraught with difficulties such as in New York, she obtained a job posing for stills for a crime magazine however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. After a brief time as a club hat girl, she decided to return to her home in Massachusetts and leave her position. As an usherette, she worked during the early morning hours and also performed at the New England Repertory Company by evening, her first ever permanent acting job. She was a drama student at the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
